We have some news here at Podcast 66.
When we started this show back on August 1st, 2014, we didn't know what to expect. Anyone could go out and make a fan site and podcast.
When Daniel and I first started talking about doing this show, we weren't sure how to go about it. I had preliminary talks with Fansided about taking over DorkSideOfTheForce.com, and I was thinking of starting a show to go along with the site.
That's when I found Daniel. I hit him up on Twitter asking if he'd like to join me, and of course he jumped right in. One thing led to another, and next thing you know Dan was the editor and chief of DSOTF and I was on his staff.
We launched the first episode of Podcast 66 on August 1st.
Our tech and distribution was so bad. We had put the episode on SoundCloud after not being able to find a host for the show. DSOTF didn't have the capacity to host it, so we were basically starting in a giant hole.
Finally after three episodes we made it on to iTunes and used buzzsprout.com to host our show. We had a logo, a new intro, and finally it felt like we had some traction.
Now that we are 23 episodes in, it's time to make a change.
Effective immediately Podcast 66 is going independent. We are leaving DorkSideOfTheForce.com and moving to our own site, Podcast66.com.
This wasn't an easy decision for us to say the least. What DSOTF brought us was a platform. Those of you who have started podcasts or fan sites know how tough it can be to get out there. You have to get on social media and share like crazy. You have to send out emails to guests hoping they will view you as legitimate.
What Fansided and Dorkside did for us was give us that legitimacy. Seeing Sports Illustrated at the top of our site with the sleek look of the page made listeners and readers see that we had a foundation.
Now, we've talked to Star Wars actors and actresses, made friends with some of the biggest Star Wars podcasts out there, and have risen in content and production. We feel we can make an impact on our own.
We couldn't be more thankful and appreciative of Fansided. They gave two knuckleheads the keys to a site. They trusted us to bring good Star Wars content out there every day.
But just like kids grow up and move away from their parents, we feel it's time to move out and venture out there alone.
So what does this mean for the listeners?
Our show will still be the same. We will have the same great content that has been brought to you for 23 episodes.
When it comes to Podcast 66 regular Eric Crisp, he's leaving Dorkside to join us as a writer here on Podcast66.com. As is DSOTF staff writer Mike Audette.
What this really means is there will now be one central location where you can check us out. All of our episodes are already on here and will continue to be posted here. We have complete control of what we post and when we post it on here. We will also be adding forums for listeners to interact and talk as well.
Basically this will become the ultimate hub for Podcast 66. You can still find us at the same place on Twitter and ITunes and Stitcher.
We are so thankful to every listener and guest that has made all of this possible. We are moving here as a big family.
Hopefully you'll continue to join us every week and keep coming back to the new website.
May the force be with you, always.
